It was time to start putting together a serious bike. The MONTAGUE BOSTON-8 is a fairly lightweight folding street bike with full size 700 wheels and a NEXUS hub gear instead of the usual derailleurs with the loose chain causing problems when folding and carrying. Ilia installed a BAFANG mid frame motor and custom fitted a powerful ALLCELL battery. I also added folding pedals and a luggage rack with a cradle for a second battery for greater range. With only one battery this bike weighs 55 pounds, 5 pounds heavier than the DAHON folder, but the larger wheels now make it possible to keep up with city traffic. The DAHON handles more like a wheelchair compared to this full size bike. On the negative side the aluminum frame and fork turns riding on rough pavement into a bone rattling experience and the fattest tire this bike accommodates is 35mm. This is a great bike as long as you stick to smooth roads.
