After four years of looking for the perfect all around e-bike, this is one good result. It combines the dynamic duo of a Bafang mid frame motor and a NuVinci hub gear. After upgrading the rear disc brake to an hydraulic disc brake, changing the handlebar and adding a great Surly luggage rack and detachable pedals, the total cost came close to 4k, a little more than I can afford for my own use. Unfortunately no usable kickstand could be found so far. The 4 inch tires are a bit of an overkill in the city, though it eliminates the deadly danger of getting your front tire stuck in streetcar tracks. On very rough country roads, many of them unpaved or in very bad condition, these tires provide great traction, even on loose gravel or sand. The weight is still only 60 pounds, no more than most other e-bikes on the market. With the pedals, the battery and the front wheel removed and the handlebar turned 90 degrees it makes it lightweight and compact enough to stow in my mini van. This bike is available, without the improvements I added, from LEGRAND CREWSE of LECTRICCYCLES.COM in Arizona who creates this bike by installing the eRad {Bafang} mid frame motor and battery on the ORIGIN-8 CRAWLER fat bike.
